Austria involved in the construction of Ariane 6 rockets
Austria is participating in the construction of the new European Ariane 6 rocket which will be deployed starting in 2020. The Ariane 6 rocket will be developed over the next five years and should be used as of 2020. Following the Ariane 5 rocket, which was launched into space 80 times over the past twelve years, the Ariane 6 will serve as the main launching system for European space travel up until the year 2050. Airbus Defence & Space announced the signing of an agreement in August 2015 between ESA and Airbus Safran Launchers with a volume of EUR 2.4 billion to develop two versions of the new launch vehicle.
Johann-Dietrich Wörner, who has been General Director of the European space agency since July 1, 2015, emphasized the good cooperation with Austria, which “plays a decisive role, thanks to its outstanding expertise in space sciences, satellite applications and as a developer of critical technologies”, amongst other reasons. More than 100 companies and organizations in Austria are actively involved in the field of space travel.
