The Ludwig Boltzmann Society wants to make a contribution to ensuring that open innovation principles and methods become an integral part of scientific work methods in order to bring science, business and society closer together. In turn, this will enhance the positive effects of science on society. New solutions and new approaches could arise if thousands of people from across the globe with different backgrounds share their knowledge.
The tasks of the new center is to carry out research on the issue of "Open Innovation in Science" (OIS) and the development of methods, trainings and services for science and society. Examples of applications include methods to generate new research questions (crowdsourcing) and the identification of new potential applications for existing technologies (technological competence leveraging). The results of the center’s work will be integrated into the work carried out by other research institutes of the Ludwig Boltzmann Society, but also be offered to external scientific stakeholders.
