European Inventor Award goes to Styrian NFC pioneer

The NFC technology is used widely around the world today. It is applied in ski lifts or admission tickets as well as in paying small amounts with cash cards at the supermarket or in transferring information from smart posters. "NFC opens up countless new applications for smart phones, tablets and other mobile devices. Numerous functions are merged into a single multifunctional unit”, said Benoît Battistelli, President of the European Patent Office (EPO) in praising the inventors. "NFC harbors immense potential for society. The technology creates new opportunities for users to interact directly with their surroundings and thus revolutionizes the world of modern communications“, he added. Today the invention of Amtmann and Maugars is now a fundamental part of modern technological standards in the field of mobile telephony. An NFC chip is built into every third mobile phone available on the market.
