The company in Graz uses the same solar cells as the American electric car manufacturer Tesla for its latest "Model S". Via a USB interface, the "Powertab" provides up to 2.4 amperes of output current. A full battery charge is sufficient for up to three smart phones. The device is also equipped with a reading and night light.
The solar charging device has already attracted interest from Austria’s development aid organization, Sunnybag said in speaking to the Austrian Press Agency. Sunnybag founder Stefan Ponsold was in West Africa together with development workers and tested the "Powertab" under extreme conditions. The "Powertab" is expected to be available for sale starting in September.
