To simulate the feeling of floating in the air, a "Jumpcube" was constructed featuring a sophisticated cable system. This catches the “jumper” – regardless of her or his body weight – after the jump, holds the person horizontally suspended and ensures the right position after the “opening” of the virtual parachute.
For a jump of about three minutes from an altitude of 15,000 meters, the person wears headphones and 3D glasses which show high resolution images of the City of Vienna. Hundreds of gigabytes of data and considerable computing power are necessary so that the glasses show the right image depending on the viewing angle. In order to make the jump as realistic as possible, the computer also coordinates ventilators designed to simulate headwinds. Even the moisture accumulated when falling through clouds can be felt due to the fact that water is sprayed in the wind.
