New concept for programmable quantum computer

Wolfgang Lechner, Philipp Hauke and Peter Zoller of the Institute for Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (IQOQI) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) and the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the University of Innsbruck focus on the so-called adiabatic quantum computer.

Adiabatic quantum computers are particularly designed to deal with optimization problems, for example the search for the shortest possible route through a specified number of different places. In contrast to digital quantum computers, they do not process the information on a step by step basis, but search for a mutually shared, optimal state of several quantum bits, which interact with each other.

Austria on track to implement the mobility of the future

Recently the first autonomous or self-driving bus was put into operation in Vienna, and the first autonomous air taxi in Austria should be ready for series production by 2020. It seems that the mobility of the future has long begun in the Alpine Republic. This is, last but not least, evidence of the ideal conditions which innovative companies benefit from here.
