A1 invested EUR 600,000 in Parkbob, one of the startups of the A1 Startup Program. Moreover, at:net (FFG), aws and the Vienna Business Agency have committed themselves to the startup. The fresh infusion of capital will be used to enable the roll-out in all European capital cities. By the end of 2017, Parkbob wants to be represented in all 50 countries in Europe as well as in North America.

Confidence in the team

“Parkbob has really convinced us. We have confidence in the team led by Christian Adelsberger and his idea. The forecasting and data quality could be enormously enhanced by means of integrating Parkbob in mobile phone parking. In the meantime, 40,000 unoccupied parking spaces in Vienna are displayed via Parkbob”, says Margarete Schramböck, CEO of A1. Christian Adelsberger himself also believes in the future of autonomous driving. “The possibility for Parkbob to become a key player in this field is growing in light of the fact that future mobility is increasingly evolving towards connected services and autonomous driving”, he explains.

How Parkbob works

Parkbob combines real time parking data from different sources with a comprehensive data base of parking regulations and links this with geo-information. In this way, the system knows at all times where parking is permitted and what it costs, and also shows available parking spots in real time. Moreover, Parkbob is integrated in the A1 mobile phone application, in order to enable all-round service. The Parkbob service for smart phones is available for the iPhone and Android.

Zika Virus: Testing for Austria vaccine begins

A promising vaccine for the Zika virus is now being tested by Themis Bioscience GmbH, a specialized biotech company developing prophylactic vaccines against emerging tropical infectious diseases. After recent progress with the development of a Chikungunya vaccine the company succeeded in swiftly adapting their proprietary vaccine technology for their Zika vaccine program. This program is based on a live attenuated recombinant vaccine that promises a fast and effective immune response.

Foreign companies as a driving force for Austria

Austria is a very successful country economically speaking. Only Luxembourg, Ireland and the Netherlands have a higher per capita GDP in the EU. Domestic companies mainly assert themselves as market leaders in small niches, are highly productive and export almost everywhere in the world. This is something which is well known, at least within Austria itself.
