The freedom to conduct research

The prize, endowed to the amount of EUR 1.5 million, is the most prestigious and biggest scientific award in Austria. “This award is of enormous importance to me and gives me the freedom to more strongly decide myself which direction my research work will take”, Nägerl says.

The phenomenon of high-temperature superconductivity, which abruptly decreases the electric resistance of some materials at temperatures above –250 degrees Celsius, has not yet been explained. The work carried out by Hanns-Christoph Nägerl could help contribute to finally learning to understand high-temperature conductivity.
