The company with its approx. 80,000 employees is constructing a research and development center in Kottingbrunn, Lower Austria. Up to 100 employees will work there, according to GWM Austria Managing Director Markus Schermann. Austria was selected as the location for GWM’s first R&D facility outside of China for a variety of reasons. For example, Austria boasts a large automotive component supply industry, and has a high educational level. At the same time, the country is located in the middle of Europe, and very close to the German market with its major automobile manufacturers. Furthermore, there are also many car production plants in nearby Slovakia.
