Biocrates acquires Metanomics

BASF Plant Science GmbH, the former owner of Metanomics, will retain a minority stake in the Austrian firm Biocrates. The volume of the latest round of financing as well as the purchase price for Metanomics were not disclosed. Investors participating in this round of financing were BASF Plant Science GmbH, MIG Fonds and GA Asset Fund GmbH & Co. KG (GAF).

Metabolomics comprises the analysis of metabolites i.e. the endogenous and exogenous small molecules such as lipids and amino acids. Their specific expression patterns can be used as biomarkers for certain diseases. Biocrates offers metabolomics kits enabling the quantification of up to 400 metabolites in one test thanks to the multiplex procedure. Metanomics Health has a comprehensive portfolio of new, metabolite-based biomarkers in the field of oncological and cardiological diagnostics.
