On the basis of existing export data for the period January to October 2017, domestic exports in the year 2017 will rise by about eight percent to more than EUR 140 billion. The export economy is expected to continue its record-breaking performance and surpass the threshold of EUR 150 billion in exports in 2018. Europe and Austria’s EU membership comprise the main underlying reason for this outstanding development featuring a doubling of export volumes in the period 2000 to 2017. Austria has become a net exporter of investments compared to its previous role as a net importer. Austrian companies have invested about EUR 190 billion abroad and employ one million people in other countries.
