Data-based value creation, automated production and new business models in the digitalized economy have far-reaching effects on the economy and society and also pose major challenges to legal systems. For this reason, Johannes Keppler University as well as the Linz Institute of Technology (LIT) are not only pressing ahead with technological research but are also investigating legal changes and requirements of digitalization with the new “Lab for Digital Transformation and Law”. The focus of the lab’s work includes the legal impacts of such issues as data protection and data sovereignty along with the licensing and monitoring of modern operating plants.
