Alongside the BMW 5 Series cars, the BMW Z4 represents the second BMW vehicle to be manufactured in Austria. The Z4 engines are produced in Steyr in Upper Austria. According to the manufacturer, the Z4 is thus “entirely an authentic Austrian product”. The SUV BMW X3 was already assembled in Graz in the years 2003 to 2010. From 2010 to 2016, Magna produced numerous mini-models in the Styrian capital, and the BMW 5 Series has been leaving the assembly lines in Graz since 2018 in addition to production in the BMW plant in Dingolfing.
On balance, more than 1.2 BMW and Mini vehicles have been manufactured in Austria since the year 2003. Furthermore, today more than half of all BMW and Mini cars around the world feature an engine from the Upper Austrian plant. Each year more than 1.3 million engines are produced there. The market launch of the Z4 with three model versions is planned for March 2019. Annual production of the sportscar is said to amount to 20,000 vehicles.
