The decoding of the molecular foundations for metabolism is essential in order to understand the development and progress of diseases. Within the context of the cooperation program named BioTechMed-Graz, researchers at the University of Graz, Graz University of Technology and the Medical University of Graz are collaborating on decoding the molecular basis of metabolism. The latest magnetic resonance technology will provide support to the research activities.
Common diseases such as diabetes, cancer and Alzheimer’s comprise a major burden on those affected as well as on the health care system, and also represent an immense challenge to biomedical research. The pre-requisite for developing new medicines and approaches to therapy is a deep understanding of the molecular causes of illnesses. The research partners want to jointly gain previously unattained insights into the interaction and consequences of metabolism and link established and complementary research areas in the field of metabolism by taking an integrative approach. The center will bundle the longstanding expertise of several working groups, carrying out research into signaling pathways of energy and fat metabolism or associated lipid metabolism disorders, amongst other priorities.
