Competencies in the fields of basic research and the application of blockchain technologies are to be bundled at the ABC. 21 scientific institutions, 54 companies and 17 associated partners are involved, including 16 international institutions and companies. The focal point of the center’s research will range from Industry 4.0/Internet of Things and the fields of finance, energy and logistics to applications in the public sector and public administration.  The objective is to promote the scientifically well-founded further development of applications based on blockchain technologies. “The comprehensive investigation and use of blockchain technologies can only succeed through an interdisciplinary approach. For this reason, ABC partners from different disciplines are working together. The center comprises a major opportunity to ensure that Austria can keep pace with the high-tech giants in the USA and Asia in this promising field. Providing support to so-called hidden champions is also of importance to us”, says Alfred Taudes, the scientific director and coordinator of the Austrian Blockchain Center, who also heads the Research Institute for Crypto Economy at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
