Zurich was rated second, followed by Vancouver, Munich and Auckland ex aequo in third place. “In addition to a stable political and social environment, the Austrian capital mainly scores points thanks to its good medical care, a diversified cultural and recreational offering as well as a remarkably high number of international schools”, was the reason Mercer provided for the ranking. “The low crime rate, efficient law enforcement and an outstanding offering of high quality living space, both in the city area and its surroundings, have contributed to Vienna’s being able to defend its top position once again.“ On balance, the study implemented by Mercer evaluated 231 cities, taking 38 categories into account, such as the political, social and economic situation, environmental protection, health and education.
