The five-day Vienna Cyber Security Week (VCSW) held in the middle of March 2019 served as a dialogue forum for the third time. Its purpose is to discuss current challenges and solutions relating to the protection of global, networked infrastructures in fields such as energy, communications, transport or smart cities. The organizers were the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), the Federal Economic Chamber and Energypact Foundation together with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, amongst others.
The focus of the event attended by more than 500 participants from all over the world was on critical infrastructures, the fight against cybercrime, regulation and legislation as well as standardization, social and economic issues, processes and laws. The aim of the dialogue was not to end up with a specific agreement, but rather for all participants to gain knowledge in an informal setting. The participants included political decision makers, civil servants, interest groups, research institutions, standardization organizations and companies.
