This not only means quicker diagnoses for allergy sufferers, but also better treatment possibilities. The test system Allergy Explorer (ALEX) developed by Macro Array Diagnostics can quickly and reliably test up to 300 allergens at the same time, requiring only a small drop of blood plasma or serum. This could generate savings in Europe’s health care system of up to EUR 140 billion annually.
Plans call for ALEX to be automated in order to reach even more patients and received EUR 2.5 million in funding from the European Union via its Horizon 2020 funding program. The funding covers about 70 percent of the project costs for the automation of ALEX. The support provided by Horizon 2020 represents a milestone for Macro Array Diagnostics, because it makes the automation of ALEX possible three years earlier than expected.
