The "Vienna Scientific Cluster 4" (VSC-4) is the most powerful supercomputer ever installed in Austria. It represents a joint project of five Austrian universities, namely the Vienna University of Technology, the University of Vienna, the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, the Graz University of Technology and the University of Innsbruck. The Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research provided substantial financial support.

The supercomputer was installed at the Vienna University of Technology. It will be available for scientific calculations starting in the late autumn of 2019. Boasting a peak performance of 3.7 TFLOPs, the VSC-4 is more than five times more powerful than its predecessor. As a result, the TFLOP threshold has been exceeded for the first time. "The VSC-4 ensures that research requiring high-performance computing in the scientific location of Austria will continue to be at the cutting edge internationally in the future", says Iris Rauskala, Federal Minister of Education, Science and Research.
