The firm develops cloud solutions and was originally launched as an open source project. Today more than 50,000 companies across the globe apply the software developed by Sentry, which develops key components of the software in Vienna. Plans call for a further expansion of the office in Vienna in the coming years. "Sentry consists of several components. Two of them are client SDKs. These comprise the integration in the programming languages and platforms used by Sentry customers (.NET, Python, PHP, Java, JavaScript etc.) as well as event processing. The latter is the further processing of data to make it understandable for Sentry customers. Strack traces have to be processed for crashes to make them comprehensible to a person. This part of the platform is being completely developed in Vienna", explains Armin Ronacher, Director of Engineering at Sentry with responsibility for the office in Vienna, in an interview with trendingtopics.

"In Vienna it is easier to stand out as a positive company than in Silicon Valley", Ronacher says. "Naturally, Vienna is interesting as a city for the people who work here. Vienna is a fantastic place, especially for families, due to childcare and living costs. Moreover, it is easier to offer a good working environment to developers here, and to retain them in the company for a long time", he adds. The startup recently received USD 40 million from the two renowned providers of risk capital, namely Accel and New Enterprise Associates (NEA), to enable Sentry to expand its "Application Performance Monitoring" (APM) services.
