ALP.Lab (Austrian Light Vehicle Proving Region for Automated Driving) is Austria's first testing region for automated vehicles, a test track over a distance of 400 kilometres. In the meantime, it has become an internationally sought-after and comprehensive testing environment for testing and developing self-driving vehicles. "In particular, one thing is important to ensure that this vision of autonomous driving becomes a reality i.e. to carry out tests again and again, and to do so in all dimensions", says Jost Bernasch, Managing Director of ALP.Lab.
This is because it is absolutely essential when it comes to automated vehicles to make sure that all systems function in a robust and reliable manner and that they perfectly communicate among themselves and with the infrastructure. Von ALP.Lab offers functionalities and services for a continuous chain of tests. Here driving manoeuvres and scenarios are initially being subject to thorough virtual tests on test benches and simulations. This serves as the basis for subsequently testing the vehicles on the testing grounds and public streets. The results of these real-life tests are then conveyed to the virtual testing systems on the simulator via the ALP.Lab Data Cloud in order to further optimise autonomous driving functions.
