
This should eliminate the problem of empty mobile phone batteries when one is on the road. Any person with (too) little battery power can simply rent one of the small green power banks from Chimpy and return it after use. A network of more than 100 tobacconists in the city which is growing in number every day already offers the service which works without registration. The power bank and accompanying cable can be borrowed for a fee of three euros and a deposit of 15 euros and subsequently returned to one of the partner tobacconists.
The rental service provided by Chimpy has already existed in Switzerland for more than six years, and in Germany since 2019. The underlying reason for originally founding the company in Zurich was the fact that four friends, namely Andreas Braendle, Mirko Hofmann, Can Olcer and Simon Schwarzenbach, complained about the increasing amount of battery waste and decided on the spot in 2013 to do something to improve the situation. The power banks are all charged only with solar energy. Moreover, they are used much more often on average than power banks which are purchased.
