This was showcased in the SEDA Index of the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), which compares more than 140 nations. Austria is ranked an excellent fifth overall, surpassed only by Switzerland, Norway, Finland and Iceland. The study entitled "Economic Resilience Is Built on Societal Well-Being. The 2020 Sustainable Economic Development Assessment (SEDA)" of the strategy consulting firm BCG concludes that Austria succeeded in improving its previous ranking from the year 2019 by three notches during the coronavirus crisis. 40 indicators focusing on the categories of the economy, investments and sustainability were measured to enable a comparison of the wellbeing of people in different national economies.
Austria scores well when it comes to economic stability and climbed the ratings from 31st to 19th place. In terms of government aid packages, 40 percent is related to new programmes or services which are for the benefit of employees, families and vulnerable population groups, thus promoting an overall feeling of wellbeing. Austria also managed to catch up in 2020 with respect to the digital inclusion of all segments of the population compared to its performance in 2019. The E-Commerce Act and progress made in developing mobile Apps were among the other improvements.
