Now the University of Innsbruck has been honoured for its performance at the Spin-off Austria Conference by being awarded 3rd place in the category of spin-offs of new companies. In the spin-off category, the University of Innsbruck with its eleven spin-offs outperformed all other universities in the country.
A total of 31 spin-offs in which the university owns or owned a stake were established at the University of Innsbruck over the last thirteen years. Seven of these equity stakes could already be sold. Only four were not successful on the market. About 140 people were employed by these companies at the end of last year. A separate investment company was already founded at the University of Innsbruck in 2008.
"We are already striving to convey to our students and employees at a very early stage that they have the option of establishing a company", states Rector Tilmann Märk. "In this regard, our work with young talents consists of many further education courses, lectures and trainings, a professor for entrepreneurship with suitable courses for students in all disciplines, corresponding extension courses as the basis for such spin-offs, and last but not least, the startup centre InnCubator". The ideas for the new companies originated in nine out of the 16 faculties, led by Biology, Pharmacy, Chemistry, Mathematics, Informatics and Physics.
