This is because the BMW Group Plant Steyr which serves as a hub for engine manufacturing should be transformed into one of the most important producers of e-drives at BMW. 620,000 electric engines developed in Steyr are planned to leave the assembly lines starting in the fall of 2025. In the year 2030 half of the workforce of 4,400 employees at the plant will be working in the field of e-mobility along with 90% of the 700 developers.
The factory already manufactures more than one million engines each year. The engine plant is one of the most important companies in Austria. Plans call for an additional two production lines to be added in the years to come. On balance, the management of the German multinational aims to invest about € 1 billion in Steyr by 2030. By that time, every second car will feature an electric engine. BMW already doubled its sales of e-powered cars last year.
