Austria’s innovative strength displayed at the WebSummit Rio 2024

In April 2024, Austria demonstrated its leading role in technology and research at the WebSummit Rio. Together with Federal Minister Martin Kocher and partners, ABA presented innovations from Austria and promoted Austria as a business and work location.

The WebSummit Rio took place in April 2024. The event attracted more than 34,000 participants from the global technology and startup community to Rio de Janeiro, bringing together 1,500 startups and 700 investors and serving as an important platform for interaction and networking.

Austria leveraged the WebSummit as a means of demonstrating its role as a leading player in technology and research. Led by Martin Kocher, Federal Minister of Labour and Economy, the country introduced its innovations and technological progress, which in turn aroused the interest of many visitors. The underlying objective was to present Austria as an attractive business and work location and promote international partnerships, especially when it comes to skilled workers, like the Hackathon in autumn of 2023.

Scheduled meetings with companies and universities were already held before the WebSummit in order to put together a delegation coordinated by ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Brasil and the Vienna Business Agency. These preparations served as the basis for important talks to be held with universities and companies in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo during the WebSummit. In turn this laid the foundation for future partnerships. The exchange of views with universities and recruiters taking part in the delegation trip was also a fruitful one and enabled Austria to position itself as a dynamic and innovative location.

Austria succeeded in being effectively represented at the WebSummit thanks to the collaboration of ADVANTAGE AUSTRIA Brasil and the Vienna Business Agency. The country’s presence at the WebSummit Rio 2024 enabled it to strengthen its international ties and open up new opportunities for cooperation. This confirms the importance of global networking and collaboration for the promotion of technological and economic development. Furthermore, ABA will once again take part in the WebSummit in Lisbon from 11-14 November 2024 to leverage new synergies and initiate new partnerships contributing to Austria’s technological and economic dynamism.
