Quick Info

Who is Siemens Energy?

Siemens Energy is one of the world’s leading energy technology companies. The group employs around 100,000 people in 90 countries, some 2,500 of them in Austria. From its sites in Weiz and Linz, the company draws on more than a century of industrial heritage in Austria and develops solutions for tomorrow’s energy supply.

Why does Austria stand out as a location?

For Siemens Energy, Austria combines several decisive advantages as a location: a central position in Europe, a strong education system and a highly skilled workforce. This expertise is a decisive factor, especially for complex products such as transformers.

What is Siemens Energy building in Austria?

Siemens Energy is investing continuously in expanding its Austrian sites. Having opened a new wind-power transformer plant in Wollsdorf in October 2025, the company is now adding production capacity in Weiz and service capacity in Linz. This strengthens the company’s role in modernising the energy infrastructure and expanding renewable energy.

What role does the Austrian Business Agency (ABA) play?

On investment and expansion projects, the Austrian Business Agency acts as a central point of contact within Austria’s funding and business landscape. For international companies, it offers guidance, connects them with the relevant authorities and makes it easier to access the information they need for investment decisions.

„For Siemens Energy, Austria is a key location for the energy transition. From here, we develop and produce technologies that support the expansion of renewable energy and the stability of modern power grids worldwide.“

What makes Austria so attractive for companies like Siemens Energy?

For Siemens Energy, Austria is far more than a production site. Expertise built up over decades, specialist staff and stable operating environment provide the foundation for long-term investment. At the same time, high-performance infrastructure and efficient processes allow new projects to be implemented swiftly.

The new Wollsdorf plant is a case in point: it was completed in just 13 months, permits included – a pace that stands out even internationally.

How is Siemens Energy leveraging Austria’s potential for research and growth?

Weiz produces phase-shifting transformers, among other things, which regulate power flows across European grids and support the integration of renewable energy. Transformers from Weiz have also been in service for decades in major international cities such as New York, where their compact design and high efficiency are especially sought after.

At the same time, the new service plant in Linz extends the lifespan of existing transformers by up to 30 years through modernisation and refurbishment. Siemens Energy is also pursuing forward-looking projects such as the UpHy Large hydrogen plant, which is being built with partners in Austria. In this way, the company combines industrial tradition with the demands of a sustainable, climate-neutral energy supply.
