Volkswagen relies on Magna Steyr in Graz

The Volkswagen Group is leveraging the know-how and experience of the Styrian automobile manu-facturer Magna Steyr. For this reason, it has assigned the company the task of developing two models for its new American electric-powered car brand Scout. Featuring a contract volume of € 450 million, this represents the largest single development order ever handled by Magna Steyr.

The two vehicles, namely an SUV and a pick-up truck, are to be ready for series production by the end of 2026. For this reason, development work is already in full swing. Production will take place in a new Volkswagen factory in the USA. The market launch is scheduled for 2027.

Magna Steyr has extensive experience with SUVs and also with electric cars. For example, the com-pany has been assembling the Mercedes-Benz G-Class for the last 40 years and the fully electric ver-sion of the iconic vehicle as well starting this year. Since 2022, it has also been making the Fisker Ocean, an electric-powered SUV. The Californian company Fisker also developed the vehicle in col-laboration with the engineers at Magna Steyr.

Magna Steyr belongs to Magna International and operates facilities on four continents, employing a workforce of more than 22,000 people. The globally active corporate group has more than 120 years of experience in motor vehicle construction. The headquarters of Magna Steyr are located in Graz. It is home to Magna International’s largest single site with about 8,000 employees and is only one of the company’s two facilities across the globe which produce entire vehicles.
